At its new site in Coimbatore in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Weldy Technologies India builds Weldy-branded hand tools and automatic welding machines for the Indian market using local suppliers. Martin Zingg, CEO of the Leister Group, wants to serve Indian customers even better: "The Weldy brand stands for functionality and quality: Simple, Good, Affordable. Our aim is to develop and produce new Weldy products in India that are geared towards the Indian market and whose components come from Indian suppliers. This will enable us to meet market-specific requirements and individual needs in India even faster and in a more targeted manner."
Leister has a long tradition in India
The Leister Group has been present in India since 1987. Christiane Leister, President of the Board of Directors, said in her speech: "As early as 1990, Leister had its own stand at the first national trade fair for the plastics industry, Plast India, which was held in Delhi."
Over the years, the Leister Group has greatly expanded its presence in India and continuously extended its range of products and services. In 2012, the first Indian location, Leister Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. was founded in Chennai. Since then, Leister has opened regional sales and service centers in major cities such as Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune in order to be close to its Indian customers. In addition, a dense dealer network now ensures that Weldy devices are available everywhere in the country.
"Make in India for India"
With the foundation of Weldy Technologies India Pvt. Ltd., the Leister Group is taking its presence in India to a new level. "Make in India for India" is how Christiane Leister sums it up with reference to the government initiative of the same name. And further: "We develop and build the Weldy appliances in India according to Leister Group standards and processes. This enables us to serve our Indian customers with functional and high-quality products and at the same time create attractive jobs in Coimbatore."
Cooperation with universities and research institutes
The Leister Group works closely with universities and research institutes worldwide to develop new technologies, products and services. In Coimbatore, too, Leister is aiming to collaborate with local universities and institutes to support activities in India. For several years now, the Leister Academy in Chennai has been providing its customers, suppliers and employees with ongoing training and education on the topics of plastic welding and process heat.
